The Council's Admission Criteria

Applications for Reception Class at English Medium Schools

In deciding upon admission the Council will consider each individual application recieved by the published closing date. Where the number of applications for admission exceeds the number of places available, places will be allocated applying the following admission criteria, in order of priority, a summary of which is set out below. Full details can be found in the Parental Guide to School Admissions 2011-2012 (English or Welsh).

 

  1. Looked After Children (LAC)
  2. Children who are currently permanently reside within the schools designated catchment area.
  3. Children whose parents have provided satisfactory evidence that they will be living within the designated catchment area of the school by the start of the school term.
  4. Compelling medical or social grounds.
  5. Children who have an elder brother or sister in attendance at the school during the academic year in which the child is to be admitted.
  6. Proximity, i.e. distance from home to school.

There is also an Appeals Process if parents are dissatisfied with the result of an application.
