When does your child start

The current policy allows for a single intake in September, which enables reception age pupils to be admitted to school full time in the September following their fourth birthday.

What to do first

Parents are advised to notify the Headteacher of their local primary school well in advance that they have a child approaching school age. If you have not already done this you should do so without delay. These details will be forwarded to the school admissions section in the LA at the appropriate time, who will ensure you receive an application for admission to Reception class. Application forms are now available for September 2012 entry.

Applying for your chosen school

Admissions to primary schools will normally be granted provided a schools standard number or statutory class size limit, where applicable, will not be exceeded. Where the number of applications for admission to a school exceeds the number of places available, i.e. where a standard number has been reached, places will be allocated applying recognised admissions criteria. Please see our Parental Guide to School Admissions for further information.

Where parents knowingly give false information in order to obtain the advantage of a particular school for their child to which they would not otherwise be entitled, the council reserves the right to withdraw the offer of a place. Parents may render themselves guilty of an offence under Section 5(b) of the Perjury Act 1911.
