Parents as Partners
A crucial element in the vision of this school is to involve,
as far as possible, all parents in our life and work. The school
aims to create a partnership between parents, children and staff,
recognising that parents are the child's first teachers and that
for the child to experience strong links between home and school
enhances all aspects of development.
Helping in the Classroom
Parent helpers who have a CRB police check are
welcomed into the classroom during session times. On the Home
Visit, all parents are offered the opportunity to volunteer help
during the sessions. Staff try to encourage a regular pledge of
once a week or fortnight.
Parents who are unable to help in the
classroom often volunteer to take things home: toys to clean and
sterilize at the end of the year, repair, collage and display
preparation.
Fundraising
The school aims each year to donate to various
charity organisations. In more recent years the school has
requested money instead of produce at harvest time to donate to Ty
Hafan or Lesotho and has supported charities linked to the children
and families attending at that time.
Parents and children have also helped in the
making and selling/buying of cakes for the Children in Need and
Comic Relief appeals.
Home-school Tasks
ach term, parents are given a task to complete
with their child. This is a topic related curriculum activity.
Events
Parents are invited into the Nursery on
numerous occasions throughout the year to observe concerts and
other celebrations. They are also asked to accompany their children
on trips.
Home Links Area
This area provides information on health
issues, what’s on in the community, the staff and aims of the
nursery, weekly newsletters and curriculum planners as well as
photographs of the children. It also houses the home link
activities. Parents are invited and encouraged to participate
in a range of lending schemes:
Pre-reader target
books........Story sacks.......Activity tins...........Maths
bags
Parent Partnership Meetings
These meetings inform parents of how to
support their children’s pre reading, writing, number skills and
how to use positive discipline strategies. These are of an informal
nature where parents can share problem and answers.
They are held after school and are led by the
headteacher. Parents receive a brochure, are given activity ideas
and are able to observe teaching strategies. They are also
introduced to the lending activities that are available and
particular problems can be aired.

Well Done Certificates
Parents can nominate their children for
certificates rewarding stepping stones in their development. These
are presented to the children at circle time on a Friday where they
receive a badge and the certificate is stuck into their
workbook.
