The Aims of the Service:
- apply psychology to promote the positive development and
achievement of all children
- work in partnership with schools, parents and other
professionals to promote the achievement and inclusion of all
children
- fulfil its statutory duties under the Education Act 1996 and
the Children Act 1989.
Accessing the Service:
Schools:-
Have a number of allocated sessions per term, based on
assessment of need and educational psychologists’ time available.
Schools prioritise the use of the psychologists' time through the
schools’ Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO).
Other Professional Agencies (OPA):
Refer directly to the Service. When this concerns school-aged
children the school is given the choice to arrange a consultation
with their Educational Psychologist or address the issues raised
directly with the OPA concerned. For a child not on a school roll,
educational psychologists liaise with the OPA and parents
direct.
Parent:
Can refer directly to the Service for possible input from the
Educational Psychologist. Usually parents will raise their concerns
with the school and schools will access the service as
appropriate.
