The Aims of the Service:
To work closely with schools and families in respect of the
following:
- Attendance/Truancy – minimise the need for prosecution.

- Welfare/Bullying – facilitate pastoral support
- Child Protection – fulfil duty of care for the child/young
person.
- Exclusions – advise schools, children and parents of the
relevant procedures. Pupil Exclusions
- Pregnant Schools Girls – support and consider appropriate
provision
- Child employment – issue work permits for statutory school age
pupils.
- Performing Licensing – issue performing licences for statutory
school age pupils.
- Travellers – advising on education provision
- Youth Offending Team – secondment of education welfare officer
to work collaboratively with the Pupil Support Service.
- Out of School Tuition/Elective Home Education – to monitor
school attendance and in appropriate cases make necessary

Accessing the Service
The Service is accessed by an open referral system:
School
Each school has an allocated Education Welfare Officer. Schools
will contact its identified officer with all referrals.
Pupil/Parents/Other Professionals
Can refer directly to the Service, may require further
collaboration between all parties i.e. Service/ Parent/ Pupil/
Headteacher/Other Professionals/Agencies.
