Can you choose your child’s school?
You have the right to say which local authority school you want
your child to attend, either mainstream or special. This can be the
school they already attend. The LEA must agree with your preference
as long as:
· the school you choose is suitable for your child’s age,
ability, skills and SEN
· your child’s presence will not affect the education of other
children already at the school
· placing your child in the school will be an efficient use of
the LEA’s resources
The LEA will make the final Statement within eight weeks of the
Proposed Statement. They will send you a copy of the Statement and
it will have part 4 filled in with the name of a school. The
Statement comes into force as soon as the LEA make it.
