The National Curriculum
The National Curriculum is the entitlement of all children of
compulsory school age and this includes children with special
educational needs.
The Education Act 1996 does, however, allow for all or part of
the National Curriculum to be modified or disapplied in exceptional
circumstances.
Where children have very specific difficulties, special
arrangements will be made to allow maximum access, continuity and
progression with the National Curriculum.
Sufficient scope, however, remains beyond the National
Curriculum for a school to provide a broad, balanced and relevant
curriculum to meet the educational needs of each child.
