Eco-schools

The Eco Schools programme is an international initiative that encourages pupils to engage with environmental and sustainable issues.

The programme is a learning resource and topic areas include: Litter, waste Minimisation, Transport, Healthy Living, Energy, Water, School Grounds and Global Citizenship. Our Eco committee consists of at least 2 representatives from each class from year 2 to year 6, 2 members of the Governing body and is run by Miss Lewis.

The purpose of Eco Schools is to extend learning beyond the classroom and develop responsible citizenship attitudes both at home and in the wider community. Eco Schools encourage pupils to take key roles in decision-making and participation in order to reduce the environmental impact on our school.

Since September 2006 our Eco Committee has been very successful; we have achieved all our Eco Schools awards from bronze, silver and green flag status.

In the coming year we aim to develop our garden and pond area to encourage wildlife. We are currently working towards becoming a Fair Trade School, we sell Fair trade fruit for our snacks, and buy Fair trade tea, coffee and sugar.
