Food Complaints
The Council investigates complaints about food sold within its
area to protect public health and ensure that the food and food
packaging meets the relevant legal standards. When the food is
purchased outside of the Councils area, the complainant will be
advised of the relevant local authority who should deal with their
complaint. However, we may assist in transferring the food to that
authority.
For more information on what complaints are a public health risk
and will be investigated can be found in our Food
Complains Leaflet.
Making a Food Complaint
To make a food complaint, could you please fill in the following
online form.
Please ensure that all food items are stored in the freezer
until they can be dropped off or collected.
Please note
A decision is made on what action is most appropriate taking
into account all the evidence gathered. Unfortunately, it is not
always possible to identify how a food product has become
contaminated. Due to the enormous volumes of food produced by some
of the larger companies, the presence of a particular contaminant,
whilst unpleasant for the consumer, may be statistically
insignificant and not therefore actionable.
However, it often allows us the opportunity to check on the
procedures of the major food manufacturing companies and to ensure
that they are aware that their food safety procedures are subject
to scrutiny from the enforcement authorities.
Please note that the Council will not seek to obtain or
otherwise negotiate any compensation or redress on the behalf of
the customer(s).
