Thinking of starting a food business?
Many people think about running their own food businesses, be it
a cake shop or a restaurant. Whatever food business you run,
you need to know the current legislations and industry
guidelines. These pages are designed to help with the process
but the responsibility to know the legal requirements and to
keep up to date with any changes to the legal requirements
falls to you as the food business operator.
Guidance on current legal requirements can be found on
Food Standards Agency
website. The Welsh Assembly Government
provides further information, as Wales can be subject to
different legislation from England, Scotland and Ireland.
We are also subject to legislation produced
by the European
Union. Welsh Water provides
advice on disposal of
fats, oil and grease.
EVERY food business needs to register with us
AT LEAST 28 days prior to opening. It
doesn't matter whether you just sell some sweets as a sideline or
make meals, we need to know. Failure to register with your
local authority is an offence. To register with us, please
download the Food
Registration Form (PDF) or contact 01446 709105 to have a copy
e-mailed or posted to you.
Please note that we are not currently able to make
advisory visits prior to opening, the first visit will be your
primary inspection.
