Woodwork and Carpentry
To learn how to work with wood and design and construct a wood working project and to adopt reasonable health and safety procedures while woodworking.
Woodwork and Carpentry is a practical course for learners who wish to learn how to use wood in a project of their choice.
Health and Safety is an integral part of this course as students will be working with wood, using hand tools and various machines while undertaking project work under the guidance and tuition of the tutor.
Complete beginners and improvers are welcome to attend as the project undertaken, will reflect the student’s previous experience (if any).
You will learn to:
Adopt reasonable health and safety procedures when using hand tools and machinery
Mark out and construct 4 woodworking joints
Design and construct a woodworking project of their choice (with advice from the tutor)
Use hand tools such as chisels, planes and saws
Use fixed machines such as a band saw and a morticer
Are there any additional costs? Wood for projects – Tutor will advise.
Please wear old clothes. Safety goggles are available at the Centre.
