Dressmaking, Upcycling and Accessories
This course will take you through all aspects of basic dress-making and accessory-making and how to up-cycle and alter existing clothing or an accessory such as a hat or bag.
I will guide you through laying out, cutting and following a pattern for a simple garment and/or an accessory of your choice. In addition, I will show you how to up-cycle an existing item of clothing. Think of the Sewing Bee, I will do my best to make it fun and exciting for all concerned!
You will need to bring a simple pattern for an item of clothing in your size or who-ever you’re making for and if you wish, an accessory. You will also need to buy a suitable length of fabric, but I will advise on that in the first week of the course, so you don’t need it for the first lesson. Please don’t buy velvet, very fine or stretch fabric as these are difficult to work on as a beginner. You will also need to bring an item of clothing or accessory to up-cycle and a basic sewing kit – fabric scissors, thread, hand sewing needles, a stitch un-picker and any notions for your garment/accessory.
I will provide spare fabric, some items of clothing, patterns and trims to help up-cycle your item of clothing or accessory, I will also provide photographic ideas with instructions for uc-cycling and altering garments and accessories.
There will be an additional charge of £5.00 per person for materials provided.
