Pupil Development Grant (PDG) Access

The Welsh Government has introduced a new Pupil Development Grant (Formerly School Uniform Grant) of up to £125.00 to assist families on low income. 


This grant can be used to help with the following:

  • The purchase of school uniforms including coats and shoes

  •  

    • Uniform for enrichment activities including but not limited to; scouts, guides, cadets, martial arts, sports, performing arts or dance.
    • Equipment e.g. school bags and stationary
    • Specialist equipment where new curriculum activities begin such as design and technology
    • Equipment for out of school hours trips such as outdoor learning e.g. waterproofs

Please note: IT equipment is excluded from this grant.

 

Who is Eligible

The grant is available to pupils who are eligible for free school meals or are looked after children who are entering:

  • Reception class in September 2018

  • Year 7 in September 2018 

  • Pupils in special schools, special needs resource bases or pupil referral units who are aged 4 or aged 11 in September 2018

 

This is not available to pupils attending private schools.

 

Eligibility for the grant entitlement is provided for parents/guardians who are in receipt of certain benefits as per free school meal entitlement. The relevant support payments are:

    • Universal Credit 
    • Income Support
    • Income Based Job Seekers Allowance (IBJSA)
    • Employment Support Allowance (Income Related) (ESA (IR))
    • Support under Part VI of the immigration and Asylum Act 1999
    • Guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
    • Child Tax Credit (but not Working Tax Credit) with an annual income (as assessed by the Inland Revenue) not exceeding £16,190
