Centre for Learning and Wellbeing

 

Project overview:

  • Discontinue the Council’s current Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), Y Daith, and establish a new Centre for Learning & Wellbeing under the management of Ysgol Y Deri.
  • New build on Court Road site with capacity for 80 Key Stages 3 and 4 pupils with complex Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

  • Teaching space will be spread across two storeys. The school building will include classrooms, a main hall for sport and dining, offices for senior staff and administration, a staffroom, and break out areas for pupil interventions. Within the grounds there will be external play areas, a multi-use games area (MUGA) and habitat areas for forest school provision and to enhance pupil well-being. The school will have photovoltaic panels and is designed to be net-zero carbon in-use.

Specialist Resource Base at Gladstone

 

Project overview:

Ysgol Y Deri Logo
  • The Specialist Resource Base (SRB) at Gladstone Primary School has been trialled since September 2019. The SRB utilises areas within the existing school buildings.
  • The SRB will be formally established from September 2021, under the management of Ysgol Y Deri, and will continue to use the existing facilities at Gladstone Primary School.
  • The SRB will accommodate 10 pupils with complex Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Project overview:

  • New SRB allocated within the new Whitmore High School building with capacity for 20 Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) pupils.
  • The SRB will be formally established under the management of Whitmore High School from September 2021.
  • The SRB includes classrooms, sensory rooms, break-out spaces and a mixed use teaching and social space. The SRB has direct access to outside space.

Ysgol Y Deri Expansion

  • New build on preferred Cosmeston site with capacity for 150 pupils under the management of Ysgol Y Deri.
  • The new school building will primarily accommodate primary-aged pupils. However, the school will operate a need-based approach to determine the split of pupils across the two sites.
  • £11M investment.
  • Teaching space will be spread across two storeys. The school building will include classrooms, a main hall for sport and dining, offices for senior staff and administration, a staffroom, and break out areas for pupil interventions. Within the grounds there will be external play areas, a multi-use games area (MUGA) and habitat areas for forest school provision and to enhance pupil well-being. The school will have photovoltaic panels and is designed to be net-zero carbon in-use.
