Adult Placement Service

The Adult Placement Service (also known as Shared Lives) is an arrangement where approved hosts (or carers) provide support and accommodation to vulnerable adults in our community.

The service is regulated by the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW).

A copy of our Annual Inspection Report, national minimum standards and regulations is available on the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) website. Our Statement of Purpose is updated annually.

  • How the service works

The Adult Placement Service is available in the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend County Borough.

We assess and train hosts, and then 'match' them with individuals. We monitor placements so that both hosts and individuals benefit.

    We offer:

    • Long Term Placements

    • Short Term Placements

    • Emergency Placements for up to 28 days

    • Respite placements

    • Additional Support (within the Vale of Glamorgan only)

  • Who the service supports

The Adult Placement Service is available for people aged over 18 with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, mental health problems or dementia, who have been assessed as having a need for accommodation and support.

  • Benefits of being a host

Some of the benefits of being a host include:

    • Earn a living – our hosts across the services earn between £424 - £617 per person supported, per week which is subject to special tax arrangements. Hosts can support up to 3 individuals in their homes

    • Be part of an exciting scheme that at the heart of it helps people live their best life

    • Access to ongoing training and development

    • Ongoing support from an allocated Project Worker

  • How this supports individuals in the life they lead
The aim of the Adult Placement Service is to support the individual to develop the practical, social, and emotional skills to make their own choices in life and be as independent as possible, whilst remaining at the heart of their community.

How to become a host

Anyone over the age of 18 in the Vale of Glamorgan or Bridgend County Borough can apply to become a host.

You don’t need any qualifications or experience of working in the care sector (though it can help). All you need is the right values, dedication and of course a spare room. We welcome applications from individuals or couples.

To become a host please complete an application form:

Host Application Form (Shared Lives Plus website)

If your application is successful, we will move forward to a full assessment which includes various checks. Upon completion of this assessment we will present our report to an Independent Approval Panel who will decide whether they agree with us. If everyone agrees, you will become an approved host and welcomed to our team.
