Youth Cabinet

The Youth Cabinet is the voice of young people living in the Vale of Glamorgan and represents their views and opinions to decision makers within the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

There are 7 Youth Cabinet members elected from the Vale Youth Forum and during Local Democracy Week the Youth Mayor is elected.  The Youth Mayor is the chair and spokesperson of the Youth Cabinet. 
Ben Lloyd from Cowbridge Comprehensive was voted as Youth Mayor 2018-19 and
Nikita Harrhy from St Cyres was voted as Deputy Youth Mayor 2018-19.

What We Do:

  •   Facilitate youth meetings to influence Vale-wide and national issues which may affect young people in the Vale.    
  • Listen and collect the views of young people in the Vale on a variety of issues.
  • Represent views of young people at local, regional and national consultation events, meetings and groups.
  • Take action to make the Vale of Glamorgan a better place for young people to live. 
  • Organise Youth Mayor Elections during Local Democracy Week.
  • Facilitate the work of the Youth Mayor and Deputy Youth Mayor.
  • Represent young people at ceremonies and events throughout the Vale.
  •   Fundraise for charities that affect young people locally.
  • Get involved in different levels of decision-making and work closely with the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Cabinet.
  •  Provide accredited training for all members that is recognised by colleges, universities and employers.
  • Register members for Millennium Volunteers and Star Awards to enable them to receive recognition for their volunteering hours.

The Vale Youth Service works in partnership with the VYF to ensure that young people throughout the Vale have a voice. 


The Forum is a registered charity and is the youth council for the county. 


The VYF is a group of young people aged 11-25 who represent their schools, youth clubs and youth organisations. 


The VYF links in with national organisations to ensure the voices of young people are taken into account at higher levels of decision-making, these organisations include;
