EARLY RETIREMENT/REDUNDANCY COMMITTEE

 

Minutes of a meeting held on 23rd January, 2017.

 

Present:  Councillor S.C. Egan (Chairman); Councillor Mrs. B.E. Brooks (Vice-Chairman); Councillors G. John and A.P. Riley.

 

 

694     APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE – 

 

These were received from Councillors H.J.W. James, Mrs. M. Kelly Owen and Mrs. A. Moore.

 

 

695     MINUTES –

 

RESOLVED – T H A T the minutes of the meeting held on 28th November, 2016 be approved as a correct record.

 

 

696     DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST –

 

No declarations were received.

 

 

697     EXCLUSION OF PRESS AND PUBLIC –

 

RESOLVED – T H A T under Section 100A(4) of the Local Government Act 1972, the press and public be excluded from the meeting for the following items of business on the grounds that they involve the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined in Part 4 of Schedule 12A (as amended) of the Act, the relevant paragraphs of the Schedule being referred to in brackets after the minute heading.

 

 

698     TERMINATION OF VOLUNTARY EARLY RETIREMENT ON THE GROUNDS OF REDUNDANCY – H AND W (EXEMPT INFORMATION – PARAGRAPHS 13 AND 14) (DEH) –

 

Consideration was given to two applications for voluntary early retirement / redundancy in respect of the above employees within the Directorate of Environment and Housing. 

 

RESOLVED –

 

(1)       T H A T a discretionary redundancy payment be approved in respect of H, under Scheme E of the Council’s Early Retirement / Redundancy Policy on the basis of termination on the grounds of redundancy as of 31st January, 2017, subject to Resolution (2) below.

 

(2)       T H A T on the merits of the case, approval be given to make a payment in respect of this untaken annual leave (12 days), the payment to be made by the Service and in addition to the benefits set out in Resolution (1) above.

 

(3)       T H A T the application in respect of W be deferred to the next meeting. 

 

Reasons for decisions

 

(1&2)  To support the cessation of the service delivery following the transfer of five libraries to “Community Library” status.

 

(3)       To allow clarification to be obtained in regard to the individual’s contract of employment.
