Following the success of the nextbike cycle hire scheme in Cardiff, we have received requests for the implementation of a similar system in the Vale. In response to this, a pilot scheme will be installed in Penarth. Nextbike will install 50 electric bikes across several docking stations.

So far, we have identified the following as potential locations:

  • Penarth Town Centre
  • Cogan Train Centre
  • Penarth Train Station
  • Llandough Hospital
  • Penarth Esplanade / Clifftops
  • Cosmeston Country Park

Whilst these locations are under consideration, we're inviting residents to give their suggestions. Locations must meet the following criteria in order to be considered:

  • Close to popular destinations such as existing transport links, job centres, supermarkets and other shops

  • Within a 5-10 minute ride to other stations

  • Have a high footfall

  • Highly visible and easy to find

  • Have enough space to allow safe movement of pedestrians and people with limited mobility

  • Accessible by van or bike trailer to allow our service team to maintain the bikes and stations

  • Monitored by CCTV

Final decisions will be made based on the above criteria, as well as the ability to source power to the locations, which will be determined by power providers.
