Children Services' Vision
Children and Young People Services: The Vale of Glamorgan Council is both progressive and committed to offering the best services to its citizens and to meeting their needs.
Rachel-Evans“I am delighted to welcome you to our recruitment pages and would encourage you to explore them fully.
Now is a really exciting time to join the Vale of Glamorgan. We are extremely proud of our status of being the best performing Council in Wales and ambitious to build on that success.
The Care Inspectorate Wales’ recent inspection of Children’s Services found an Authority with motivated frontline staff who report job satisfaction, good provision of training and good management support at all levels including regular supervision. We are an Authority where Children and Young People Services benefits from strong and committed corporate support and we have excellent relationships with partners. This environment ensures that children are central to the work we do and our staff are valued for the contribution they make.
In partnership with our workforce, we have reviewed our structure to add increased resilience to the front door, to create a dedicated team for children looked after and to enable adequate resources for the completion of pre and care proceedings. Social Work caseloads are carefully monitored to ensure capacity for direct work with children and their families and the completion of core tasks.
Care Inspectorate Wales have commended us for the work we are doing to respond to the challenges we have identified and concluded the Authority are in a strong position to further develop our service to children and their families.
If this inspires you to want to make a difference and be part of our journey here in the Vale of Glamorgan, I look forward to hearing from you.” - Rachel Evans, Head of Children and Young People Services
The Vale of Glamorgan Council is both progressive and committed to offering the best services to its citizens and to meeting their needs. Our focus is targeted to delivering good services to those who receive them within our core values of transparency, engagement, and empowerment. We believe these values support our ability to deliver the right services, in the right way, to the right people, at the right time.
The Vale of Glamorgan is both a prosperous and a deprived council with areas of high need. There are approximately 28,596 children and young people aged 0 to 18 living within the Council’s boundary; our commitment to achieving positive outcomes for our residents remains central to our way of working.
We are content to be different and to set the trend for positive change rather than follow the paths of others. We are resourceful and resilient, committed to improvement and keen to embrace new ideas. Building on widely acknowledged strengths, you will be supported by an able and committed team who have a proven capacity for good service delivery and for helping families achieve good outcomes.
Don’t just take our word for it, meet some of our staff and our service users
We have made good progress in the implementation of the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014 and remain focused on the planning and promotion of preventative services and working co productively with families. We recognise our achievements, where we can develop further and we are clear on our direction of travel that will balance the need for continual service improvement with the stark reality of resourcing pressures.
We are currently focused on further improving integrated working at and before the front door to enhance our ability to support children and families earlier, implementing positive changes to how we provide services to children looked after and those subject of pre and care proceedings, and in driving forward with our plans to meet placement needs. You will be part of helping the Council and its partners take forward its programme of change, designed to provide children and families with a range of services which are more responsive to need and more sustainable.
Creating an environment within which staff enjoy their work, are supported to deliver within demanding and challenging roles, and to have every opportunity to develop their skills and experience that enables us together to promote positive outcomes for children and their families is central to my role as Head of Service. I am fully committed to this task and excited about the work that is taking place in the Vale of Glamorgan. I look forward to welcoming you to the team.
