Christmas and New Year Recycling and Waste Information 2022/23

Information and guidance for waste and recycling collections this Christmas and New Year period

Temporary lift on black bag restrictions

There will be no black bag restrictions between Tuesday 27 December 2022 and Friday 13 January 2023. Black bags will still be collected on a fortnightly basis during this time.

You can check your black bag collection week below:

Collection Day Checker

Enter your postcode to check details of your next recycling and waste collections and set up email reminders.

The normal limit of 2 black bags per household will resume on Monday 16 January 2023.

All your leftovers including vegetable peelings and turkey carcasses can go in your food waste bin. Christmas cards and cardboard without glitter can be recycled.

Please do not include any wrapping paper in your recycling bags or boxes. All wrapping paper should be placed in your black bag.

Unfortunately, we are unable to collect fairy lights, sticky tape, bows, tinsel/decorations and polystyrene.

Christmas tree recycling

We will be collecting Christmas trees from designated collection points from Monday 16 January 2023 to Saturday 28 January 2023.

  • We can only collect real trees for recycling

  • Please remove any decorations and soil

  • If longer than 6 foot, please cut down to size

If you are unable to drop your Christmas tree off at one of our designated collection points, or you would like to recycle your Christmas tree before the designated collection date in your area, you can recycle your Christmas tree at one of our Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs). HWRC appointments will not be necessary if you are ONLY dropping off your Christmas tree.

If you are unable to drop off your tree, please arrange a garden waste collection. If you don’t wish to recycle your tree this year, please place it out with your black bags on your usual refuse collection day from the week commencing 16 January 2023.
