Filming Requests

The Vale of Glamorgan is a perfect place for filming locations, the county is renowned for its green pastures, rocky heritage coastline and beaches, as well as its characterful towns


The Vale has a varied landscape and buildings suitable for a variety of set needs.


A number of locations are used regularly by companies. Recent filming includes Gavin & Stacey, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Tracey Beaker, Merlin and  Pobol y Cwm.



  • Penarth Pier

    A beautiful Victorian pier with traditional features. Built in 1894, and opened a year later, the 658-foot-long Penarth Pier is reminiscent of more gentle times and is one of only two surviving pleasure piers in south Wales.

  • Barry Island 

    Barry IslandA fantastic, traditional seaside resort complete with fun fair, amusement arcade, sandy beach and newly refurbished eastern promenade with traversing wall.

  • Porthkerry Park

    Porthkerry Country ParkA 220 acre country park of woods and meadowland, overlooking the Bristol Channel, with impressive Victorian viaduct.


    The park has a number of nature trails, picnic sites, a café, a play area, barbecue areas and mini golf course.

  • Cosmeston Lakes Country Park

    The country park has a variety of habitats covering over 100 hectares of land and water, some areas designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest protecting the rare and diverse plant and animal species.


    There are gravel paths and wooden boardwalk which make the park easily accessible.

  •  Cosmeston Medieval Village

    Cosmeston Medieval VillageSet in Cosmeston Lakes Country Park, a reconstructed 14th Century village, built on an original medieval village site, consisting of medieval buildings and gardens.


    Cosmeston medieval village can accommodate both small and large scale productions and also provide onsite unit base parking. To discuss proposals and conditions regarding the hire of the medieval village, please contact the visitor centre.

  • Coastline

    Vale-Heritage-CoastThe Glamorgan Heritage Coast stretches for 14 miles, from Aberthaw to Porthcawl with plunging cliffs, secluded coves and breathtaking views it is a must for walkers, cyclists or anyone with a love of the countryside


    The Glamorgan Heritage Coast walk is a spectacular journey past dunes, cliffs and coves, rich in wildlife and history.

Location Fees

Fees vary according to the Council property used as a location and any extra facilities required. There is also a fee for the preparation of a filming licence.


The Highways Department charges a facilities fee for filming on the highway. Payment is required before filming commences. The Council reserves the right to charge cancellation fees, to cover the cost of lost bookings.


Fees are not charged for news reports and interviews.


Fees are not charged to students making films as part of their academic studies, or to registered charities making films in support of their activities.


The Council will:

  • Log the proposed filming to ensure, as far as possible, no conflicting use of the area
  • Provide, if possible, supporting and background information through its Tourist Information Centres
  • Provide, where possible, reasonable vehicular access and parking for filming/support vehicles
  • Provide assistance in locating a suitable site wherever possible
