Vale community groups receive funding Mayor’s Foundation Grant fund 2018/19

A total of seven organisations have received grants from the Vale Mayors Foundation Grant Fund in time for the New Year.

The RNLI Barry Lifeboat, Tir a Môr District Scouts, Valeplus, Valeways, Ty Cadoc’s Residents Association received £250 from the Mayor’s grant fund.

 

The National Coastwatch Association received £157.

 

The Highlight Park Community Neighbourhood Watch is made up of 16 street co-ordinators and received £243.00 towards their new project.

 

The watch wants to set up “Highlight Community Cuppa”, which would meet at the community centre on a fortnightly basis.

 

Deputy Group Coordinator Barbara Bowering, Highlight Park Community Neighbourhood Watch Group Coordinator Ada Finn, said

 

“Highlight Park is 2 miles from Barry town, and people can feel isolated. We want to reach out to men and women in the neighbourhoods of Illtud and Dyfan, as well as Highlight Park.

Our aim is to help raise community spirit,by getting rid of loneliness and spreading the

word that support is out there for people.”

 

The aim of the Mayor’s Foundation Grant Fund is to offer grants to Community Groups, the Voluntary Sector and not for profit organisations towards the cost of initiatives within the Vale of Glamorgan that help to support the Council’s vision of 'Strong Communities with a Bright Future'.

 

Vale Mayor Cllr Leighton Rowlands said: “I am pleased to present these groups with grants from the Mayors Foundation Grant Fund 2018/19.

 

 “It is clear that the members of each organisation are hardworking people , dedicated to their cause.

 

 “I believe that supporting community groups, the voluntary sector and not for profit organisations across the Vale is vital, and I am happy to support as many groups as possible, to ensure they continue to thrive.”

 

 

Groups gaining from Mayors grant fund

 

 

The fund aims to provide community groups, the voluntary sector and not-for-profit organisations with funding between £100 and £250 to enhance the work of voluntary and charitable organisations within the Vale of Glamorgan.

 

The specific funding available each financial year to be allocated as part of this grant fund scheme is £5,000.
