Warm welcome for Goodsheds planning application approval

Planning permission has been granted, subject to conditions, for the conversion of the historic Hood Road goods shed in Barry and construction of a steel container ‘village’ alongside.

Goodsheds1This Goodsheds development will become home to a mix of new businesses including restaurants, a bar and brewery, a tech hub and 11 live/work residential units. There will be a total of 40 containers available for pop-up restaurants and small creative businesses. 

Separate proposals on the same site include the delivery of up to 42 rental properties.


Cllr Jonathan Bird, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: "In many ways the proposals that was approved by planning committee last week encapsulate the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s approach to regeneration. 

"These exciting new development will provide a home for more than 50 new businesses. The innovative design is in keeping with the surrounding Waterfront development, modern with strong references to Barry’s industrial past. 

"While improving the town’s leisure offering with ventures such as an outdoor cinema and roof top bar, 42 new rental properties will also be created.

"The Council has worked with the developer, DS Properties, in the past, on the neighbouring Pumphouse development. Considering the great success that has become we are very much looking forward to doing so again."

Goodsheds2The area between the existing building and the container village will feature a play area, outdoor performance space as well as the outdoor cinema.

A single storey drive-thru coffee bar and space a farmers market are also proposed. Construction is expected to begin within months.
