The Council is a finalist in the Living Wage Leader (Public Sector) category at the Living Wage Foundation’s Living Wage Champion Awards 2026.

The awards celebrate organisations that are going above and beyond in their commitment to the real Living Wage, highlighting those that are driving change within their sectors and communities.

Living Wage Award Shortlist AnnouncementThe Council’s shortlisting reflects its strong and sustained commitment to ensuring employees are paid a wage that also meets the real cost of living.

This recognition builds on the Council’s recent accreditation as a Real Living Wage employer, meaning all Council staff will now receive at least £13.45 an hour, up from £12.60, which is above the legally required minimum wage of £12.21 an hour.

In addition to supporting its own workforce, the Council is also working with suppliers and partners to encourage wider adoption of the Real Living Wage across the Vale of Glamorgan.

Laithe Bonni, Employee Services Operational Manager at the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for this national award, as it truly reflects the importance we place on supporting our workforce through fair pay practices, which in turn has a direct impact on how we are improving the way we support those who need us most across our communities.

“Many Vale employees live in the communities they serve and by ensuring that they are paid a real Living Wage, we are also supporting local economies and improving overall wellbeing.”

The winners of the Living Wage Champion Awards 2026 will be announced at a national ceremony later this year.
