Self-isolation Support Scheme

Self-isolation support scheme is designed to help working people on a low income who cannot work from home and will lose earnings when told to self-isolate by the NHS Wales Test,Trace, Protect service (TTP).


The Vale of Glamorgan Council will be responsible for carrying out the relevant checks and making the fixed £500 payment to those eligible and living in the Vale. This payment will not affect other benefits.

 

Stan​​dard Award Eligibility

Your application must be submitted within 21 days of your self-isolation period ending.

Please note: 14 days if your isolation period starts before the 01.02.21

 

To qualify, you must be in receipt of a qualifying benefit:

  • Universal Credit

  • Working Tax Credit

  • Income-based Employment and Support Allowance

  • Income-based Job Seekers Allowance

  • Income Support

  • Housing Benefit or Pension Credits

 

You must also:

  • have been told to self-isolate by NHS Wales, Test, Trace, Protect service (TTP) on or after the 23rd October 2020

  • are a parent or carer of a child who has been asked to self-isolate either through TTP or by their school, childcare setting or further education college and the child attends a school or childcare setting up to and including Year 11 (or up to the age of 25 if the learner has multiple and complex needs)

  • have been notified by the NHS Covid-19 App to self-isolate on or after the 01st February 2021 because they have recently been in close contact with someone who has tested positive and this requirement can be individually verified

 

And you must also:

  • be employed or self-employed

  • be unable to work from home and will lose income as a result of self-isolating

 

You will need to provide proof of your eligibility and income. 

 

Self-isolation payments are taxable. If you’re employed, you’ll pay tax on the payment if you go over your tax-free personal allowance. Your tax code will change to collect the tax. You will not pay National Insurance contributions on the payment. If you’re self-employed you must report the payment on your Self-Assessment tax return.

Discretionary Award​

If you meet all of the eligibility criteria and you are on a low income but do not currently receive one of the qualifying benefits you may still qualify for a discretionary £500 payment.

 

The Vale of Glamorgan Council will automatically consider your application for both schemes. You will need to provide proof of your eligibility and income.
