Changes to parking arrangements at the Civic Offices

05 May 2026

As more colleagues move into the Civic Offices as part of the Eich Lle programme, we are making some changes to how parking is managed on site. These changes will start to come into effect from week commencing 11 May and we are asking for everyone’s cooperation as we work to make the best use of the space available.

Parking considerately

To help ensure parking works fairly and efficiently for everyone, we are asking colleagues to continue to park considerately and to follow these key principles:

EV spaces

EV charging bays should only be used if you are actively charging your electric vehicle or parking an electric pooled car. Please do not park in these spaces if you do not need to charge, or if you are driving a non‑EV vehicle.

Pool cars

Designated pool car bays (EV and non‑EV) should be kept free unless you are using a pool vcar. This helps ensure pool cars are available — and charged — for the next user.

Car sharing

Please do not park in the 2+ designated car sharing bays unless you are sharing your car as part of a car‑share arrangement.

These small actions make a big difference, particularly as the number of colleagues based at the Civic Offices continues to increase.

Barriers and controlled access – coming soon

Colleagues should also be aware that access to the car park will become more restricted in the coming weeks. We will have our car park attendant and premises officers covering the car park entrance between 8am – 4pm Monday to Friday, with barriers becoming operational in the coming weeks as well. This is to prevent uncontrolled parking and to help us manage spaces effectively for staff, including ensuring pool vehicles remain available and charged.

Visitor parking will be bookable in advance for anyone coming to visit the Council (including for Registration Services and weddings).

Please make sure that visitors park in the Council car park or on street and do not use the leisure centre car parks.

Further information will be shared in advance, including what colleagues need to do to prepare.

ID and Access Passes

If you need to request a new or updated ID pass, please do so via Staffnet. This will ensure your access is in place ahead of the upcoming changes. Remember if there is not an attendant at the entrance to the car park when you arrive and the barrier is closed, your ID pass should open it.

Considering other ways to travel

We know parking can be a pressure point, particularly on busier days. Where possible, colleagues may want to consider alternative ways of travelling to work on some days, such as:

  • Walking or cycling, with support available through My Rewards, including the Cycle to Work scheme and active travel benefits and travel discounts.
  • Car sharing
  • Using public transport
  • Parking responsibly nearby and walking the final part of the journey

These options not only ease demand on parking but can also support wellbeing and sustainability goals.

Finally a reminder that there is a 5mph speed limit within the car park itself, colleagues and visitors are asked to please drive carefully.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we continue to adapt our sites to support a growing workforce at the Civic Offices.
