There are a total of 13 categories for this year’s awards. These have been refreshed to reflect our organisation’s values, the Corporate Plan and the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act, as well as to celebrate the dedication and commitment of staff, after an extremely challenging few years.

Nominations for the Staff Awards closed on Friday 24 June - thank you to all those who nominated colleagues. We have had a record-breaking 194 nominations for the 2022 awards!

The nominees have now been whittled down by our evaluation panels to just a few, short-listed candidates for each of the 13 award categories and voting is now open for the hero awards. Winners for the wider categories will be picked by our sponsors.

As in previous years, the awards event, generously supported by the Vale Resort, Hensol and other partner organisations, will be delivered at zero cost to the residents of the Vale of Glamorgan. This is due to the generosity of a range of sponsors, who are listed below against each award category.

  • 26.09.2022 Meet the team behind this year's Staff Awards trophies 

     We’re pleased to announce that the trophies for this year’s awards are being made on-site by service users at New Horizons Day Service. 

     

    A small group of service users have been busy creating the awards from donated scrap hard wood. The wood had been cut to size, smoothed, polished, and lacquered for the finish ready for the plaques to be placed!

    For the first time ever, our sponsors will be choosing a winner for the new Project Zero category, which recognises colleagues who have made a significant contribution to the organisation’s climate change agenda. The Community Impact award will also be making a comeback.

  • 20.07.2022 Staff Awards tickets are now on sale!

    Tickets are now available to purchase for this year’s Staff Awards which is being held at the Vale Hotel, Hensol on Friday 30 September 2022.

     

    Tickets cost just £10 per person, with tables of 10 available at a discounted price of £80, all made possible by kind donations from our sponsors.

  • 13.07.2022 Voting has opened for the Schools Hero Award Category

    With the School Summer break around the corner, the 18 nominees for the School’s Hero category were first to be presented to the evaluation panel - Congratulations to our first short-listed candidates!

    The next stage in the decision process, is creating a shortlist of nominees to present to this years’ judging panel.

     

    This year, we are looking to create inclusive evaluation panels with staff from across the Council. The panels will be responsible for narrowing down the 194 nominees to just a few, short-listed candidates for each award category.

    With the lifting of coronavirus restrictions across Wales, planning is in full swing for the return of the awards. 

     

    This year’s awards will recognise the exceptional work of our employees throughout the pandemic. They will also reflect the evolution of the Council as a more inclusive and contemporary organisation.

Award categories

Our Heroes categories

These nominations are specific to each directorate/school and aim to recognise an individual who has made a significant contribution to the organisation, school, community or citizens. 

The nomination should highlight the contribution made and the impact this has had, indicating how the nominee has worked in line with our values and wellbeing objectives.

We want to see how staff and teams have embraced transformative, innovative and creative ways of working. The contribution could be for a specific project, pandemic response, going the extra mile in their role or exceptional customer service.

Wider categories

Categories are open to all staff, with the exception of the ‘Schools – Making an Impact’, which is restricted to those working within our schools. 

Rising Star – Sponsor Centregreat

This focuses on the achievements of our rising stars; the next generation of leaders, change makers and transformative thinkers. Nominations could be from, but aren’t restricted to, 16-24 age group, kickstarters, apprentices or graduates.

Team of the Year – Sponsor BYUK

Nominations can be from teams across the Council, this can include schools, discreet teams and cross-functional or ‘virtual’ teams that have been established to deal with or respond to a particular issue or project.

Best External Partnership – Sponsor Parentpay

This award seeks to recognise the wider contribution of external partnership working. Nominations can include initiatives that span public sector partners, collaborations, third sector and community groups.

Schools, Making an Impact – Sponsor Castell Howell

This award is specific to those working in our schools and aims to recognise the contribution of our schools in the wider community.

Celebrating Diversity and Engagement – Sponsor AECOM

This award recognises those who champion equality, diversity, and inclusion across the Council and welcome nominations for individual staff members or teams who promote equality, diversity and inclusion, as well as wider engagement across the organisation.

Community Impact – Sponsor Zipporah

We are looking for teams/individuals who have supported the most vulnerable in our communities, tackling issues such as, but not restricted to food poverty, mental health and wellbeing or the impact of the pandemic.

Project Zero – Sponsor Romaquip

This award recognises the contribution of an individual, team or initiative that helps tackle the climate change emergency. This should demonstrate transformative practices, a reduction or projected reduction in carbon emissions and seeks to support the wider Project Zero aims.
