Cartref Porthceri Team Surprised with Social Care Award Celebration
Adina Muhammed and Laura Davies, Deputy Managers at Cartref Porthceri Residential Home, were unable to attend the Social Care Award Ceremony at the Memo Arts Hall in April, however, the two were surprised with their very own celebration by Lance Carver and Cllr Eddie Williams.
Earlier this year, the Vale’s Social Care Workforce Development Team hosted an ‘Excellence in Care’ Award Ceremony at the Memo, which over 150 Council-employed and privately commissioned care providers attended.
The ceremony, which was hosted by television news presenter Sian Lloyd, celebrated care providers across Cardiff and the Vale on achieving Level 2-5 Health and Social Care Qualifications.
Due to scheduling conflicts, two exceptional Council care providers, Adina and Laura who are both currently working as Deputy Managers at Cartref Porthceri, were unable to attend the event.
Not wanting them to miss celebrating their Level 5 Health and Social Care Qualifications, Lance Carver, Director of Social Services, and Cllr Eddie Williams, Cabinet Member for Social Care and Health, surprised the pair at work to personally congratulate them for their achievements and present them with a goody bag which guests of the event received.
Adina said: “Those of us who work in health and social care chose to do so for different reasons, yet we all share a desire to serve our communities.
“When I started as a care assistant, I never thought that one day I would become a deputy manager in one of the Vale care homes. Over the years I have been given a great opportunity to develop and progress in my career.
“I am thankful to the people that place their trust in me every day to care for their loved ones. I have worked with many patients who have complex needs, and it has been a privilege to provide them with the high-quality care and emotional support that they deserve.
“I am deeply grateful to have worked alongside some amazing colleagues in health and social care over the years, and for the support and opportunities I have been given to progress in my career.”
Both Adina and Laura started as Care Assistants in 2013 and 2014, respectively. Laura worked her first ever shift at Southway Residential Home with Adina, and together the two have progressed through their careers and their Social Care qualifications.
In 2022, Adina and Laura both achieved a Level 5 qualification in Health and Social Care. Since then, Laura has already embarked on her Level 7 qualification.
Both the Council and Cartref Porthceri residents are lucky to have such hardworking, dedicated individuals like Adina and Laura as part of our Social Services department.
Da iawn!
