World Record at Makerspace shines in BBC News feature
10 December 2025
Many of you may already be familiar with the outstanding achievement of one of our youngest residents – Max Baker - who became the world’s youngest male video game developer earlier this year.
But last week his achievement - and the role the Council played in helping him reach it - received welcome attention on a much bigger stage when BBC Wales published a dedicated interview with Max.
The segment not only celebrated Max’s creativity and determination, but also placed a strong spotlight on our very own Makerspace at Penarth Library.
Throughout the piece, the BBC highlighted how the space gave Max access to the tools, support and environment he needed to experiment, learn and ultimately create the game that helped secure his Guinness World Record.
To have one of our services showcased so prominently by a national broadcaster is an achievement in itself and the interview captured exactly what our Makerspaces were designed to do.
To provide residents - especially young people - with hands-on opportunities to explore digital skills, bring ideas to life and discover new passions that could lead to lifelong careers.
Far from being a one-off success story, Max’s journey shows the potential of our facilities to inspire local innovation, nurture talent and open doors for people who may not otherwise have access to specialist equipment or guidance.
A huge thank you to everyone who has helped develop, run and support our Makerspaces - it’s wonderful to see your impact recognised so widely!
