VE Day
Details on how we will be marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day between 5 - 8 May
Next week we will commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day. A special VE day programme will be broadcast on the BBC on Monday evening, in which Barry’s past and present will feature. You can watch the programme on BBC iPlayer if you miss it.
Looking back at VE Day celebrations 80 years ago we came across this image from a street party in Grove Place in Penarth, thanks to our libraries archive collection.

We will also be raising the union jack flag at the forecourt of the Civic Offices at 9am on 8 May. This will be a poignant reminder of the courage and sacrifice of those who fought for our freedom during World War II.
Following the flag raising, officials, including the Mayor, Leader and Chief Executive will attend the Royal British Legion's wreath-laying service at the cenotaph at the Memorial Hall at 11am. Colleagues are welcome to observe both ceremonies and join us in paying tribute to our heroes.
