A 280km Journey - Walking the Camino de Santiago
Chelsie’s 280km Journey: Walking the Camino de Santiago
10 November 2025
Chelsie-Louisa Webber from the Electoral Registration team recently completed an incredible personal achievement - walking the world-renowned Camino de Santiago, a pilgrimage route that has inspired travellers for centuries.
Setting off from Porto on 26 September, Chelsie followed the scenic Portuguese Coastal Route, tracing the Atlantic shoreline through charming seaside towns and fishing villages, before reaching her final destination of Santiago on 10 October. In total, she covered an impressive 280 kilometres on foot.
Reflecting on her experience, Chelsie shared: “The Camino de Santiago is a pilgrim walk with religious origins, but open to anyone. I met people from all over the world – from North America, South America, Asia and Europe. The best part was collecting pilgrim stamps along the way, each unique and proof of your journey.”
Along the trail, Chelsie encountered countless friendly faces and the famous Camino greeting, “Bom Camino” – a phrase exchanged by fellow walkers and locals alike, wishing each other a good journey.
One of the highlights of her adventure was visiting Baiona, a picturesque coastal town rich in history and character.
“Baiona – which is a large seaside town – was my favourite stop, with a castle and fortress built in the 12th century that overlooks the town on one side, and the sea on the other,” Chelsie explained.
“I enjoyed the Galician food and learning more about Galician culture and its strong connection to Celtic traditions.”
The Camino is often described as more than just a walk – it’s a journey of reflection and personal challenge – what a fantastic achievement Chelsie!
