World Suicide Prevention Day
September 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day, a chance for organisations and communities around the world to come together to raise awareness and campaign for better suicide prevention.
This World Suicide Prevention Day Samaritans is sharing one important message: If you think someone might be suicidal, take action, interrupt their thoughts, and show them you care.
This year Samaritans has co-created a campaign with people who have experienced suicidal thoughts. They've shared real, practical ways you can help someone you might be worried about. You can find these on the Samaritans website.
Talking about suicide or mental health can feel difficult, but help is available to staff at the Council.
All Vale employees can access a 24-Hour Advice and Information Line through Westfield Health by calling 0800 092 0987 and quoting the scheme number 72115 and Vale of Glamorgan Council.
This confidential service connects you with qualified counsellors, legal experts and nurses for advice on issues such as stress, bereavement, relationships, money concerns or health worries.
You can also register to use Wisdom, using the code WHVOL, an online wellbeing resource offering self-help materials and guidance.
For structured counselling, you can contact Occupational Health: OHAdmin@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk.
You can also contact Samaritans any time of the day or night by phoning 116 123 or emailing jo@Samaritans.org.
You can also find further help and signposting to support services on the NHS directory of support for suicidal thoughts.
This World Suicide Prevention Day, let’s remember that by showing care and reaching out, we all have the power to help interrupt suicidal thoughts and offer hope!
