International Transgender Day of Visibility

30 March 2026

The 31st March marks International Transgender Day of Visibility (TDoV) - a global celebration of transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people.

The day highlights the achievements, resilience, and joy of trans communities, while also raising awareness of the discrimination many continue to face.

To mark the occasion, we are hosting a joint online event with Cardiff Council at 12pm on 31 March.

For information on how to join the event, contact Mike Gelder - mjgelder@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk

What Transgender Day of Visibility Means

TDoV is centred on celebration and visibility. Unlike Transgender Day of Remembrance, which honours those who have lost their lives, this day focuses on uplifting those who are living—creating space for recognition, pride, and representation.

It also plays an important role in education and awareness, helping to elevate trans voices and challenge misinformation that can lead to stigma and exclusion.

Ways We Can Recognise Transgender Day of Visibility

There are many meaningful ways to mark the day, including:

  • Sharing stories that highlight the diverse experiences of trans people
  • Taking part in educational events, such as webinars, workshops, or film screenings
  • Supporting digital campaigns, including sharing resources and amplifying trans voices online
  • Championing inclusive policies within our teams and organisation

Why It Matters

International Transgender Day of Visibility is important because it:

  • Challenges discrimination and misinformation
  • Encourages inclusive and supportive environments
  • Recognises the disproportionate levels of harassment and violence faced by trans communities globally

It is sometimes described as a “double-edged sword”—while increased visibility can foster understanding and allyship, it can also bring renewed scrutiny. This makes it even more important to approach the day with care, respect, and a commitment to inclusion.
