Welsh in the Vale – March 2026

09 March 2026

There are lots of opportunities this spring to learn, use and celebrate Welsh across the Council – whether you’re fluent, learning, or just interested in using a little more Welsh at work.

To stay up to date with the latest developments from Learn Welsh / Dysgu Cymraeg, you can view the latest update here.

We’re hoping to run a second Introduction to Welsh short course during the summer term this year. If you’re interested, you can register your interest via this form.

If your team would like to learn Welsh together, we’d also be happy to explore options such as bespoke sessions or joining a course as a group.

We’re excited to announce a new Microsoft Teams channel for Welsh speakers and learners!

This space is designed to be informal and welcoming - a place where you can:

  • Socialise and chat in Welsh
  • Share details of events and learning opportunities
  • Promote the Welsh language in the workplace
  • Access information about the Welsh Language Standards

Everyone is welcome to join – mae croeso i bawb!

Looking ahead, Gŵyl Fach y Fro returns to Barry Island on 16–17 May 2026.

Gŵyl Fach y Fro is the biggest event in the Welsh language calendar here in the Vale of Glamorgan and offers a fantastic range of Welsh music across two stages, along with a variety of stalls and food outlets.

As a sponsor, the Vale of Glamorgan Council will once again have a stall on the promenade. This is a brilliant opportunity to connect with residents, especially our Welsh-speaking communities, and to showcase the work we do.

We’re looking for teams and services who would be happy to spend a few hours at our stall on Saturday 16 May. You might want to promote a service or initiative, carry out engagement work, or simply enjoy spending some time at the beach while representing the Council!

It would be wonderful to have a range of services involved, whether for a short slot or by sharing the stall throughout the day.

If you’re interested, please email Elyn Hannah – Ehannah@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk

Diolch yn fawr!
