People’s Emergency Briefing Film Screening

Where: Cosmeston Room, Civic Offices

When: Thursday 5th November 11:30-12:30

Join us for a staff screening of The People's Emergency Briefing.

What does the climate and nature crisis mean for our communities, public services, health, infrastructure and local economy?

The People's Emergency Briefing, presented by broadcaster and environmental campaigner Chris Packham, brings together leading experts to explain the challenges facing the UK and the opportunities for positive action.

This thought-provoking film has been screened in communities, workplaces and public sector organisations across the country, helping people better understand the risks we face and the practical responses available.

We’d love to see you there! Colleagues are welcome to attend the screening without the need to book. If you are planning to join us at the screening, please email Susannah McWilliam - smcwilliam@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk – so that we can record attendance numbers.

The film follows the events that took place during the National Emergency Briefing last November, which brought together leading experts to present the latest evidence on the ongoing climate and nature crisis to politicians and other influential people in Westminster.

Chris Packham opens the film by saying: “I understand it's human nature to prefer not to know, to try to bury our heads in the sand. But if we all take a breath and watch this together, well first of all that's a huge relief and second we can figure out what to do about it… [the] film is both urgent and unexpectedly hopeful, offering audiences not just clarity, but a sense of agency.”

Whether you're already engaged with action on climate change, or simply curious to learn more, all staff are welcome.

Before the screening, there will be an opportunity to take part in a workshop with other colleagues present to discuss climate change and our actions in the Vale to support and protect the environment through Project Zero.

Project Zero is the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s response to the climate change emergency. It brings together the wide range of work and opportunities available to tackle the climate emergency, reduce the Council’s carbon emissions to net zero by 2030 and encourage others to make positive changes.

If you can’t make the screening, there is still plenty of information out there on how to get involved in tackling climate change in your area.

Visit our Project Zero Hub for the latest updates on what we’re doing as a Council to reduce emissions, reduce waste and nurture nature as well as information on what each of us can do individually to address climate change and live in harmony with our natural surroundings.
