Cyber Security Update

The Council continues to be the target of a significant volume of cyber-attacks, including phishing emails, malicious websites, and attempts to compromise user accounts. 

Cyber criminals constantly target organisations like ours, often using increasingly convincing techniques to try to gain access to systems and information.

The good news is that many of these threats are identified and blocked by our security systems before they can cause harm. Just as importantly, staff regularly report suspicious emails, unusual activity, and other concerns, helping us identify and stop potential security incidents before they become serious problems.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to report something that didn't look quite right. Your vigilance makes a real difference and plays an important role in protecting Council services and data.

Please continue to:

• Be cautious when opening links or attachments, especially if they are unexpected or create a sense of urgency.
• Treat all emails with caution, even if they appear to come from trusted organisations or colleagues.
• Never enter your log on details after following a link in an email.
• Report suspicious emails, websites, or unusual system behaviour to the IT Service Desk.
• Lock your screen whenever you leave your workstation unattended
• Keep your passwords secure and never share them with anyone.

While our security controls provide strong protection, cyber security relies on all of us.

Every suspicious email reported and every concern raised gives us an opportunity to stop an attack before it can affect the Council, our colleagues, or the services we provide.
