Community unites for Disability Pride Month Event
18 July 2025
Vale colleagues joined community to mark Disability Pride Month with a flag-raising ceremony outside the Civic Offices in Barry on Monday.
The event – which was organised by the Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan - brought together members of the community - including a group of residents from the ValePlus Day Service – representatives from the charity Mind, and Council staff to celebrate and raise awareness of the diverse experiences within the disabled community.
Disability Pride Month serves as a vital opportunity to encourage open conversations about disability, promote greater understanding, and highlight the importance of accessibility and allyship.
Following the flag raising, attendees gathered for refreshments inside the Civic Offices to enjoy an opportunity to connect with one another and reflect on Disability Pride Month.
Members and allies of Abl – the Council’s disability staff network - also gathered on Monday to mark Disability Pride Month, which culminated in a network meeting in the Dunraven Room at the Civic Offices.
The Abl Network aims to champion staff with disabilities, provide information and support, and raises awareness to foster a more accessible workplace.
Abl also welcomes and encourages colleagues to get involved as allies to demonstrate their support and commitment to building a more supportive and understanding environment for everyone.
