Merchant Navy Day Service - 3 September

24 August 2026

This year, Merchant Navy Day falls on the 3 September, a day to commemorate all seafarers, past and present. The council will be holding a service to honour and celebrate those who have served in the Merchant Navy and wider Armed Forces. Not only is it important to show support for them as a whole, but also to highlight the dedication of service from people within the Vale itself.

The service will be held at the Civic Office Fourecourt at 11:00, but guests are kindly requested to arrive by 10:45 to allow time for preparations before the service begins. It will be an occasion of celebration and commemoration, as the mayor will be in attendance along with other important members of the wider Armed Forces community.

The Merchant Navy flag will be raised at the front of the Civic Offices to mark the occasion. Everyone is welcome to join the service as a way to come together and pay tribute to those who have served our nation, but also our community here in the Vale. Your attendance will be appreciated as a way to celebrate and honour members of the Merchant Navy from the Vale of Glamorgan, and the sacrifices they have made whilst serving the nation.
