Senior Librarian Melanie Weeks Retires

Last week marked the retirement of Melanie Weeks, a Senior Librarian at Cowbridge and Llantwit Major Libraries, and we are proud to celebrate her exceptional contribution to the Vale of Glamorgan Library Service and the communities it serves.

Over more than 20 years, Melanie exemplified the vital role libraries play in supporting learning, wellbeing, inclusion, and access to information. 

Throughout her career, she has worked across the service, managing multiple library branches and ensuring welcoming, responsive spaces for people of all ages. Many residents across the Vale have grown up using their local library with Melanie’s support, guidance, and encouragement.

Melanie has also led key services that reach those most in need, including the Home Bound Service, ensuring that some of our most vulnerable residents continued to enjoy a full and personalised library experience, carefully curating collections tailored to individual interests, needs, and circumstances.

In addition, Melanie played a leading role in establishing the library’s Digitisation Project, helping to preserve and provide access to thousands of historic photographs. This work has strengthened community connections to local heritage, while supporting the modernisation of library services.

Jordan Forse, Libraries and Cultural Services Manager, said: “Melanie has been a remarkable member of the Vale of Glamorgan Library Service, serving across the full breadth of the service. She has touched so many lives and has seen generations of young people grow up through their local libraries. 

“Melanie’s dedication to our communities has been felt across the Vale, whether through the digitisation project, the Home Bound Service, or the many library branches she has managed. Congratulations on over 20 years of service, and I wish her a very well-deserved and happy retirement.”
