Social Care Training

Information on social care training courses available in the Vale of Glamorgan

Social Care Workforce Development Programme (SCWDP)

The Social Care Workforce Development Programme provides a comprehensive training and development programme in partnership with social care providers in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Designed around the learning needs of the statutory, independent and third sector, it combines mandatory training with bespoke, specialised courses guided by an annual audit of social care providers, social services PDRs and feedback from other groups within the Vale.

The courses are provided free of charge. A non-attendance/cancellation fee of £40 per person for a full day.

Please Note:  If the course is no-longer available online, delegates are within the charging period.

Staff are expected to attend for the duration of the training. Those who do not complete the full course will not be issued with a certificate.

Foster Carers

Once approved, Foster Carers will be supported by training. The training is directly linked to Foster Carers Induction Standards and following their first year, continued professional development.

Foster Carers can also attend any LSCB training available.

Qualifications

Currently the training team work closely with our partner Further Education College to provide QCF awards at level 2, 3, and 5 in Health and Social Care for those working with both adults and children. There are regular intakes and a bursary may be available subject to circumstances.

Places on QCF courses are only confirmed once the candidate has attended an induction interview with the college. Applications will be held as pending until that time. Queries prior to interview should be directed to the training department.

Please Note:
If the candidate withdraws or is withdrawn from the award the Vale of Glamorgan Council will require a refund of the cost of the QCF, currently ranging from £175-£500 depending on level.

The Qualification Framework for the Social Care Sector in Wales (Qualification Framework) lists qualifications for job roles in social care settings. Some qualifications are required for specific workers for professional registration or for services to meet National Minimum Standards (NMS) and others are given as guidance.

Please note: Some independent training companies are providing access to free QCFs. Unfortunately the training and development team are unable to provide specific recommendations at this time.
