Expecting a Baby
When you find out you're pregnant, you may feel happy and excited, or shocked, confused and upset. Everybody is different, and don't worry if you're not feeling as happy as you expected.
You should see a GP or midwife as soon as you think you're pregnant. If you're not yet registered with a GP, you can find your nearest one here:

While you're pregnant, you will normally see a small number of healthcare professionals regularly, led by your midwife or doctor. They want to make you feel as comfortable as possible while you're pregnant and when you have your baby.
Your Midwife and Health Visitor will get to know you and your baby well. They will help you make decisions about the care and services you may need, offer support and advice and can tell you where to get extra help if you need it.
Your Midwife will provide advice, care and support for you, your partner and family before, during and after childbirth. They care for newborn babies and provide parenting support in the early days. They also run several Parent Craft sessions, where you can meet other expectant parents in your area.
Health visitors are all qualified nurses who have undertaken additional training. They are available for advice and support and will visit you at home prior to your baby’s arrival to introduce themselves and get to know you and any worries or fears you may be having. After your baby’s birth they will continue to see you at home or in the baby clinic in your local GP surgery or health clinic. This is your chance to ask questions, talk about your baby and have your baby’s health and growth checked.
Information for dads or partners
As the main supporter for a pregnant woman and an expectant parent yourself, your feelings and needs can sometimes be overlooked. Your role is really important and the early involvement of a dad or partner has many benefits for children and your support will be invaluable to your partner too.
You are encouraged to attend antenatal appointments and ask questions and lots of areas run sessions to help you prepare for parenting, or dads groups. Ask you midwife or the Family Information Service. The 'Bump, Baby and Beyond' booklet has great information for dads and partners:

Pregnancy week by week
During pregnancy your baby’s brain is growing very quickly and you can help this growth by taking time out to relax and talk to your baby, either by touching and stroking your bump or maybe play some music. Your baby can hear you from 15 weeks.

The National Childbirth Trust is a charity providing support and information to expectant and new parents. They have a wealth of information and provide local antenatal courses and events, where you can meet other parents in your area. You can also sign up to receive their free pregnancy guide:

You can download the 'Baby Buddy' app, which is a free mobile phone app for parents and parents-to-be. It contains content approved by health care professionals that spans from pregnancy through to the first six months after birth. It sends you daily information about your pregnancy and you can ask your 'buddy' questions:
