Building Control
Whether you are a building owner, contractor or professional
advisor working within the industry, we aim to work with you to
help deliver a building that meets the standards of health, safety
and quality required by the Building Regulations, on time and
within budget. At the Vale of Glamorgan Council, Building
Regulations are administered by the Building Control Group, which
is located at the Dock Offices in Barry.
They are a highly qualified and experienced team of Building
Control Surveyors, who have extensive local knowledge, as well as
vast experience of materials and construction methods, which can
assist you at all stages of the construction process.
They are impartial, publicly accountable and place a high
priority on the quality of the service. Pre-application discussions
are welcomed and encouraged so that the more complex developments
can proceed without any unnecessary delays. This can also have a
cost saving implication for the developer as early consultation can
prevent over specification.

Building Control Register
| Our
online Building Control Register allows you
to view all Applications that have been submitted to
the Council since 1996.
Pre 1996 paper records are available for inspection in the
reception area of the Council’s Dock Office building.

Please note that all Plans, drawings and material submitted
to the Council are protected by the Copyright Design and patent Act
(Section 47) 1988.
Applications for Building Regulations Approval
Processing applications relating to building regulations for new
developments and undertaking inspections to ensure compliance with
building regulations.
General advice and pre-submission advice
Providing advice to prospective developers and the general
public prior to submission of building regulation submissions.
Building Control Guidance
Enforcement of regulations
Any undertaking of work without building regulations consent is
unauthorised.
Site inspections are carried out and complaints / concerns from
the public investigated.

Excellence Awards now
LABC’s Building
Excellence Awards are all about the essence of good buildings.
Our finalists are not judged on architectural beauty, but on the
"Excellence" shown from a construction and technical Building
Control point of view. Our awards showcase buildings and design
teams that have had to tussle with technical issues, difficult
sites, innovative and creative solutions.
The LABC 2012 National Building Excellence Awards will be held
at The Brewery in the City of London on 13th November. To get there
you have to go through the local and regional judging process. The
winners of each category nominated by the 12 LABC regions go
forward to the National Awards as finalists. You can’t nominate
yourself, but if you’ve completed a building project using local
authority building control during 2011, then ask your LABC surveyor
to enter your project.
