Borrow books, music and films, enjoy free internet access and use our online resources at Vale libraries.


Anyone who lives, works or studies in the Vale may join a Vale of Glamorgan Library. There are 9 libraries in the Vale, all with a great selection of resources.

Join your local library in person

Joining in your local library is quick and easy. Just visit your local library and be sure to bring with you:

  • One proof of identity which includes your current name and address


If you're applying for group membership, e.g. a reading group, we may ask for some additional information.

Under 16?

If you're under 16 you'll need a parent or legal guardian to act as guarantor. If they're unable to come into the library we’ll send them a letter to confirm they are happy for you to join.

Join as a guest online

If you're not already a member of the library you may join online as a guest. 

Complete the short registration form, be sure to include your email address so that we can email a borrower ID and a password to you.


You’ll soon want to convert your guest membership to full membership as this will enable you to borrow books, music and DVDs and access our full range of online and e-resources. To gain full membership please show library staff proof of your name and address and they will issue you with a library card.

Once you've joined you''ll get a library card and PIN for your own use. You can use your library card to access the fantastic range of services at any library in the Vale: you can borrow books, music and films, get free internet access use our online resources, borrow eBooks and eAudio books.

Please remember

Keep your library card safe, and do not divulge your PIN, as you are responsible for anything that you borrow with it.


Please contact the library by email, phone or in person if any of your personal details change, and make sure that you tell us straight away if your card is lost or stolen so that we can stop anyone else using it.
