Two Vale teachers nominated for national awards.

Two teachers from the Vale of Glamorgan have been revealed as finalists in the Professional Teaching Awards Cymru, hosted by Education Wales.

Leanne Pownall of Llantwit Major Comprehensive, and Hannah Cogbill of Cadoxton Primary School were among hundreds nominated by pupils, colleagues and parents across Wales.

 

They are now part of the 29 Welsh education professionals shortlisted across ten categories.

 

Leanne Pownall Llantwit MajorLeanne Pownall is among three finalists for the ‘Promoting Collaboration to Improve Learning Opportunities’ award. The award acknowledges those who have improved opportunities for pupils by encouraging collaboration between organisations- either school to school, school/college or with other leading partners. 

 

Fiona Greville, Headteacher at Llantwit Major Comprehensive said: “Leanne is an outstanding practitioner who has a leading approach toward collaboration and improving learning opportunities for Llantwit Major pupils. 

 

"She demonstrates effective collaboration on a pupil and staff level, cultivating an efficient and constructive environment within the school, encouraging all to make the most of opportunities available to them.

 

"She also works closely with our MOD partners to ensure that military pupils have support particularly if they are affected by mobility and deployment.” 

 

Hannah Cogbill is among the three nominated for the ‘Outstanding New Teacher’ award. This award is Hannah Cogbill Cadoxton Primaryreserved for teachers in their second or third year of teaching. It celebrates individuals who have demonstrated a unique and innovative approach toward teaching, and who are able to strongly support pupils and achieve outstanding results.

 

Janet Hayward, Headteacher at Cadoxton Primary said: “We are extremely proud to have Hannah as part of our team at Cadoxton. She truly is a shining light to our pupils, staff and parents alike. 

 

We were thrilled to hear she had been shortlisted for the award, and it is thoroughly well-deserved.”

Cadoxton Primary School is also up for the Promoting Wellbeing, Inclusion and Relations with the Community award.
