Photographers invited to capture the best of Barry for new Photothon
The PhotoBarrython will give professional and amateur photographers alike the chance to submit their creative impressions of the sights, sounds and characters of the town.
Organised by the Barry Making Waves projects, the competition will take place on Saturday, 10 October and will include two events. The first, a 12-hour event on 12 topics, with a photograph submitted for each. The second will be a family friendly event – running for 6 hours and requiring 6 photos on 6 different topics.
Topics will be released every three hours, with the first lot given at registration at the Memorial Hall Arts Centre. Cafes, shops and other locations across Barry and Barry Island will also distribute topics throughout the day.
Participants will also find all topics on social media. You are invited to use mobile phones as well as digital cameras.
Winners will be selected from each category and there will be a prize for both.
Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Education and Regeneration, Cllr Lis Burnett said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for keen photographers of all ages and levels to get involved. No special equipment is needed just sign up and show us what you feel is special about your town.
“The works collected will be used to showcase to visitors the best that Barry has to offer."
This is a ticketed event and participants will be required to pre-book. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to join on the day.

The event is being organised by Barry Making Waves and the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Regeneration Team. Local photographers Lee Aspland and Michael Goode and Barry Memorial Hall will work alongside the organisations to deliver the project.
