Vale Schools triumph in the Urdd Eisteddfod 2022 


Vale of Glamorgan schools excelled in a variety of categories at this year’s Urdd Eisteddfod.

URDD EISTEDDFOD 2022 - Ysgol Pen Y Garth - Dance CrewAfter hosting the Welsh Language festival on a digital platform for the past two years due to the pandemic, it was held in Denbighshire over half-term and welcomed over 15,000 children and young people under the age of 25.

 

Pupils from Ysgol Sant Baruc, Ysgol Pen y Garth, Ysgol Dewi Sant and Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg participated in this year’s event and placed highly in a range of categories.


The categories cover a spectrum of topics including design and technology, poetry, drama, and Welsh literature.


URDD EISTEDDFOD 2022 - Ysgol Dewi Sant pupil Menna Jones- CogUrddPupil Madog Llewelyn Peak from Ysgol Pen Y Garth was awarded first place in the harp solo, while his classmate, Mabli Russell, placed second in the Disco, Hip-hop and Street Dance category. The school also triumphed in the creative dance event, taking second place for Years Six and below.


Dewi Sant pupil, Menna Jones, won the CogUrdd, Urdd Eisteddfod’s cooking competition, for her age range.


Pupils at Ysgol Sant Baruc were also celebrating following their group performances. Judges awarded their Dramatic Presentation first place and their Instrumental Ensemble second place for the Year Six and below age category.


Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg excelled in a range of solo and group events. Pupil Joshua Harri Cai Lewis bagged first place in the Percussion Solo, while his peers Alaw and Efa, won the Duet in the Years Seven to Nine age range.


URDD EISTEDDFOD 2022 - Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg - Years 7 to 9 ChoirThe school’ssuccessful streak continued as pupil, Ioseff Russell was awarded second place in the CogUrdd for his age category and the vocal ensembles were awarded first place for both the Years Seven to Nine group and Years 10 to under-19 group.


The school choir also finished top of the score board for both the Years Seven to Nine category and Year 13 and under category.

 

URDD EISTEDDFOD 2022 -Ysgol Sant Baruc - Dramatic Performance AwardLogan Burrows, continued to impress the judges in the boys’ solo event for Years 10 to under-19, taking third position, while his classmates’ musical talents awarded them third place in the Band/Individual Artist event.

Cllr Rhiannon Birch, Cabinet Member for Education, Arts and the Welsh Language said: “I’m thrilled to see the Vale’s talented pupils recognised in this years’ Urdd Eisteddfod.


“The festival provides a fantastic opportunity for young people to develop their artistic talents, while creating great memories during a fun-filled day.
