Council Marks Catch the Bus Month
The Vale of the Glamorgan Council is marking Catch the Bus Month by highlighting the network of services operating throughout the County.
Catch the Bus Month is a national campaign to promote this method of transport organised by Bus Users UK, a Charitable Trust set up to improve bus travel.
Held annually in September, it celebrates the bus as a sustainable, inclusive and accessible form of transport that reduces congestion, improves
air quality and keeps people connected.
In the Vale, bus services cover around 10,000 kilometres every day on routes that stretch throughout the county.
Some travel to and from Cardiff, Bridgend and Talbot Green, serving some of our most rural communities.
Key routes serving our rural communities include:
• Service 303 that travels from Llantwit Major to Bridgend via St Donat’s, Marcross, Monknash,
Broughton, Wick, St Bride’s Major, Southerndown, Ogmore-by-Sea, Ogmore Village and Ewenny.
• Service 304 operates between Llantwit Major and Cardiff, calling at Boverton, Eglwys Brewis, St Athan, East Aberthaw, Fonmon, Rhoose, Barry, Llandough Hospital and Cardiff Bay along the way.
• Service 320 begins at Talbot Green and serves Pontyclun, Miskin, Hensol, Clawdd Coch, Pendoylan, Gwerne-y-Steeple, Peterston-Super-Ely, St Bride’s-Super-Ely, St George’s, The Drope, St Fagan’s and Fairwater on its way to Cardiff.
• Service 321 is another that starts in Llantwit Major before calling at Pentre Cwrt, Llandow Trading Estate (B4268), Llysworney (Penyrheol Terrace), Cowbridge, Aberthin, Maendy, Ystradowen, Brynsadler, Pontyclun and Talbot Green.
• Service X2 travels between Porthcawl and Cardiff, via Laleston, Bridgend, Colwinston (A48), Pentre Meyrick (A48), Clare Gardens, Cowbridge, St Hilary (A48), Tair-Onen (A48), Bonvilston (A48), St Nicholas (A48), The Tumble (A48), Culverhouse Cross (A48) and Cardiff Bay.

Cllr Bronwen Brooks, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Sustainable Places, said: “The bus services operating in our communities play a vital role in keeping people connected and tackling loneliness. Using them is safe, helps to support the local economy and also benefits the environment. The last of these is a crucial point for the Council as we look to implement Project Zero, our plan to become Carbon Neutral by 2030.”
As part of Catch the Bus Month, a representative of the Council’s Cabinet will attend an engagement event organised by Cardiff Bus and Adventure Travel at King Square in Barry on Tuesday, September 27.
Running between 10am and 2pm, it will offer bus users the chance to ask questions and find out more about the services operating in their areas.
