Support Pod Celebrates Neurodiversity with 'Autism Through Art' Exhibition

A Vale of Glamorgan Council support centre recently hosted 'Autism Through Art', an inspiring exhibition showcasing the digital artwork of local artist and photographer Euan Balman.

Euan Balman (Bug) and his artworkAlso known as Bug, Balman’s work was on display at The Pod, which is located on the ground floor of Golau Caredig in Broad Street, Barry.

 

It features vibrant and thought-provoking creations that explore the neurodivergent experience, celebrating creative expression in all its forms.

 

An event to mark the exhibition included powerful speeches from three neurodiverse participants, who shared their personal journeys and reflected on how Bug’s artwork resonated with them.

 

Funded by the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund and managed by the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Learning and Skills Team, The Pod provides vital support to individuals, including those who are neurodiverse.

 

It offers services ranging from debt advice and mental health support to housing assistance, IT training, and employment guidance.

Artwork by Euan Balman (Bug)Sian Roach, a Supported Employment Mentor at The Pod, said: “We were delighted to host this event to highlight Euan’s unique artwork.

 

“His creations deeply resonate with many individuals I support, offering a powerful lens into the neurodivergent experience in a neurotypical world.”

The exhibition was a remarkable success, leaving a lasting impact on attendees and fostering greater understanding and awareness of neurodiversity.

Cllr Rhiannon Birch, Cabinet Member for Education, Arts and the Welsh Language, said: “The Pod plays such a vital role in offering support for people with a learning difficulty, autism and other aspects of neurodivergence to achieve their full potential.

 

“It is fantastic to see the work of local rising artist Euan Balman celebrated at the venue.

 

“His artwork not only showcases incredible talent, but also serves as an important platform for increasing understanding and awareness of neurodiversity.”
