The Democracy and Boundary Commission Cymru has begun a review the electoral arrangements for the Vale of Glamorgan.

To support this, a 6-week public consultation is now underway and will close on 16 July 2025.

The review will look at electoral wards in the Vale with a view to keeping the ratio of electors to councillors in the Vale roughly the same as in other councils in Wales.

This means people are well-represented, that their votes carry equal weight, and that councillors share an equal workload.

This is happening now because the Commission has concluded the Community Review of the Vale of Glamorgan, and all changes have been agreed by Welsh Government. Among other changes this recommended establishing seven new community wards in the Vale - Waterfront (Barry), Cosmeston (Penarth), Brooklands (Wenvoe), Dyffryn (St Nicholas and Bonvilston), Cowbridge North (Cowbridge), Cowbridge Central (Cowbridge) and Llanblethian (Cowbridge).

You can find more information about the Community Review including the final recommendations here.

The Commission welcome comments during the consultation period that will inform its Electoral Review.

Once the consultation period has closed the Commission will prepare draft proposals for the electoral arrangements for the County Borough of Vale of Glamorgan. These will be subject to further public consultation.
