Schools Undergo Improvement Work
School pupils across the County have returned to upgraded facilities and refurbished buildings following work carried out by the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
With summer holidays coming to a close, children and staff are back in the classroom for the start of a new term.
While they were away, Property colleagues were busy completing a range of improvements, meaning the Vale now has even better school sites.
An additional classroom is being built at Wick Primary, with the school also undergoing an electrical rewire and internal refurbishments
Rewiring work has also taken place at Romilly Primary and Ysgol Sant Curig, while a retaining wall has been reinstated at Cadoxton Primary.
There have been drainage repairs completed at Oakfield and a toilet refurbishment and roof repairs carried out at Colcot.
Roof work has also taken place at Pen y Garth, Stanwell and St Joseph’s.
A new fire alarm has been fitted at Sully Primary School, the boilers replaced at Llandough and the chimneys repaired at Gladstone.
Various aspects of refurbishment work have also been carried out at Victoria Primary School.
Cllr Rhiannon Birch, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Education, Arts and the Welsh language, said: “While children and staff have been away from school enjoying a well-earned summer break, our Property Team has been busy upgrading facilities across our school buildings.
“A wide variety of work has been carried out meaning pupils will return to enhanced sites, providing an even better environment for learning.
“I’d like to thank the Council staff involved in this work, which will help give our pupils the very best platform for success, and schools for their cooperation and support while the various improvements have been taking place.”
Construction has restarted at Ysgol Llyn Derw, which is an expansion of Ysgol y Deri, and will cater for sixth form pupils with special educational needs.
The first phase of work at St Richard Gwyn will begin shortly, while a planning application is being prepared for the development of Ysgol Iolo Morgannwg.
